Meet Maya!
Maya (or de Veer's Myakka Marie, if we're being formal), is the official mascot of Brandt Veterinary Clinic since 2009! Now 12 years old, she's been coming to the clinic for her health care since September of 2000. We recently performed a DNA test on Maya and after years of believing she was a Golden Retriever Chow mix, found out she is 1/2 Chow Chow, 1/4 Siberian Husky and 1/4 ... well, I suppose you could say her mama was a tramp.
In her youth, Maya trained for 5 years in obedience work and became an obedience champion, once ranking 6th in the country for mixed breed obedience at her level. She has earned her Canine Good Citizen (CGC), holds titles as Companion Dog (CD) and Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) and was beginning to compete in the ring for her Utility Dog (UD) title when she tore a cruciate ligament in her knee and had to retire.
If you've been to our Clinic, Maya has surely growled at you to say "I don't know you yet". But offer her a treat and she's your very best buddy. She likes being the boss and is quite a talker. She talks to puppies and tells them to behave. They nearly always listen and it is quite a lesson in animal behavior to watch her at work. Maya lays watching the lobby, visits pet parents who are grieving, greets our canine visiters and is a very sweet and friendly. She's often seen in ther Thundershirt as she is very afraid of thunderstorms.

Sleeping in the sand. Ahhhh....it's good to be a dog in Florida!
