5. Can I get an estimate for the services I am considering?

Yes, you may request an estimate at any time and we will gladly provide a treatment plan with estimated expenses for you.

6. At what age can I have my pet spayed or neutered?

Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is required prior to undergoing every anesthesia procedure and surgery in order to minimize the risk of anesthesia to your beloved family member.

7.  What is the pre-anesthetic blood screening and why is it necessary?

This is a blood test that is run from a couple of days to 2 weeks prior to surgery. It tests the organ functions, blood counts and clotting function of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screening is done to assure safety during surgery and the ability to heal following surgery.

8. How long do the sutures stay in after my pet's surgery?

Procedures involving sutures require them to be removed in 10-14 days following the surgery.

9.  Is it a good idea to let my pet have at least one litter?

No, there is no advantage to letting your pet have one litter. However there are plenty of advantages to having your pet spayed or neutered. These advantages include decreasing the chances of breast tumors later in life, decreasing the chance of cystic ovaries and uterine infections later in life, decreasing the desire to roam the neighborhood, decreasing the incidence of prostate cancer later in life, and helping prevent spraying, marking and aggression.  Spaying and neutering also decreases the surplus of unwanted puppies and kittens.  Every year, more than 12 million pets are euthanized because there are not enough homes available.

10.  Do you board pets?

Yes, our Pet Resort features 9 large kennels and 30 cages of varying sizes.  We have boarding space for both dogs and cats.  During hurricane season, boarding for hurricane evacuation is available on a first come first served basis.  Additional hurricane information and resources are available by contacting our clinic.

11.  What are your kennels and cage facilities like?

Our spacious, state of the art dog kennels are all indoor. The dogs are walked 3 times daily while they are boarding. Additional playtime is also available. The cat boarders are housed in a separate area away from the dogs and for added stimulation, they have a view of the activities in our treatment area. Blankets and Royal Canin premium food is included.  If you prefer a special diet, you may bring that with you or purchase it at our in-house pet food store featuring many Royal Canin and some Hill's Prescription Diets.
